The theme of the conference is to emphasize the importance of networking and collaboration among all professionals responsible for creating optimal learning environments for Alabama post-secondary students through the systematic collection and use of data. Conference activities are developed to be of interest for:
Conference presentation topics will include an update of recent legislative activities and how they might affect post-secondary education in Alabama and an update on the statewide longitudinal data system (ANSWERS). Please contribute to the conference by presenting during the concurrent sessions being offered on Thursday and Friday. It would be valuable for you to share about your area of expertise to help others understand and so we can better work collaboratively.
Instead of a keynote speaker, we will take a guided tour of the State Capitol, followed by a reception across the street at the Alabama Community College System. The Thursday night special event will be a presentation of Sherlock Holmes at the Alabama Shakespeare Theater. The cost of all events are inclusive in the conference registration fee. Guests are welcome, and the associated costs are included on the registration form.
Friday, we will have additional sessions followed by the business lunch. A post-conference IPEDS workshop, co-hosted by AIR and ALAIR, will be held in the afternoon of March 10th. The cost is included in your registration fee.
This workshop stresses the importance of accuracy and consistency in data reported to IPEDS. Examples of real IPEDS data used in the public domain are incorporated, enabling participants to understand the role of governmental and non-governmental entities in IPEDS reporting. The workshop includes presentations, discussions, exercises, and demonstrations using IPEDS data tools and resources. Registration and presentation proposal forms are attached. Please nominate deserving individuals (or self-nominated) the Sam Lowther Travel Grant and the James T. Sutton Leadership Award using the attached forms. Details about the awards can be found on the nomination forms (Click here.) To volunteer your institution as a host of the 2018 conference, complete and return the attached nomination forms.
